Children’s sleep and especially babies’ sleep is an extremely sensitive and important topic for any mother. For both baby development and family wellbeing, sleep becomes one of the main concerns once we become parents, as well as a catalyst for how each day unfolds.

As a mother, there are many things that you try, to be able to ensure a quality and deep sleep for your baby: silence vs. white noise, crib positioning, room lighting, co-sleeping or own room, sleep courses and sleep consultancy.

Each mom and parent finds their own recipe for a deep sleep, many times not considering what the baby is dressed in and what sheets he sleeps in.

Linen as a textile, is most often used in clothes and due to its hardness, often avoided in children.

However, pre-washed linen, which provides both a soft sensation for the skin and a thermoregulating one, is a huge benefit for the baby’s sleep.

According to studies, heat and exposure to temperatures higher than 22 degrees have a negative impact on REM (deep sleep), while lower temperatures (17-22) do not, because the heart rate does not trigger a thermoregulatory response of the body.

Linen helps the baby’s body to maintain a constant temperature and absorb sweat, which is taken up by the fabric and released into the air, slightly increasing humidity. The thermoregulatory cycle is sustained and sleep becomes more peaceful.

There are studies done on wool, cotton and polyester, and natural fibres come out as the winner. Especially linen, with thermoregulating capacity – constant temperature in the crib.

If we add the fact that linen is naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, it certainly becomes an interesting alternative in the baby’s sleep equation and undoubtedly one to test for each mother’s individual recipe.
